Fillerati – A “Lorem Ipsum” Alternative

Lorem Ipsum is the most popular placeholder text used in graphic and web design.

If you're bored of it, here is another alternative named Fillerati that has texts from various books.

The website lets you choose the source of the text, whether it will be a paragraph, list or a title and how long it will be with the help of a slider.

And, once the slider is clicked, the text is automatically copied to your clipboard.

Fantastic alternative to the typical old Lorem Ipsum…will be using this alot more now in all our future web design projects!

    Cheers!

This defeats the purpose of using lorem ipsum and has no additional benefits. Lorem ipsum is old latin text which to most people in the world it makes no sense, therefore it is not distracting to the eye of the user but does however still have word forms similar to english and therefore doesn’t look out of place. This uses normal english writings from public domain sources which are readable just as any other text. Users will tends to start reading the text rather than ignore it thus defeating the purpose of using filler text in the first place. People recognise words by the shape of the combined letters that form a word so this will only hinder.

Let me just agree with Ritchie here on why Lorem ipsum is used as filler text.

But… I strongly feel designers should try not to be dogmatic in their thought and or work processes.

Using a filler text in a design with meaning will have an effect on how your design will be seen/read.

With Lorem Ipsum you are clear on the effects and reasons why to use it but I ask you, can there not sometimes be a reason to use a more engaging text? If I want to know if text in a certain font is legible or if I want to find out whether a certain length of text fits with my target groups attention span I could see myself using this text generator.
